Porsche 914/6 Badges: Rear Emblem
Ongoing Debate
All
six-cylinder U.S. specification Porsche 914/6 automobiles
came with "914-6" insignia on the rear of the car (European
specification 914/6 models had a different rear emblem as described on
the "European Rear Emblems" page accessible via the button on the left).
Although
prevailing wisdom cites consistency of the "914-6" insigne in
gold-anodized aluminum,
it appears that a small number of Porsche 914/6 cars were delivered
with
silver-chrome aluminum rear badges. This is supported by both the
existence of
such emblems and the lack of color notation in the parts catalog with
respect to
the single part number, 914 559 114 10. This part is described merely
as
"logo 914-6." The catalog specifies the color for the 914
four-cylinder car emblems as "gold-coloured" or "black"
under their respective part numbers (914
559 113 10 and 914 559 287 10).
Still, as evidenced in the provided pictures, the are variations betwwen the gold and silver emblems. Specifically, both examples of the siver "914-6" emblems pictured have the part number and "P.v.9." on the back. No gold versions encountered to date have any markings. This variance could signify that the siver emblems are replacement parts... or not. In any event, the gold-anodized aluminum emblems are much more prevalent, and they match the gold-anodized engine grille letters original to all U.S. specification 914/6 vehicles (a fact that is not in dispute).
