Determining Factors

When contemplating purchase or restoration of a Porsche 914 or 914/6 vehicle (or any vintage car), a major consideration is the level of desire for factory originality and authenticity. If the intention is to show the car, especially in a Concours d'Elegance format, factory originality and authenticity are primary determining factors in all decisions. Conversely, if the car is to be a daily driver or a leisure vehicle, such considerations may be secondary. In such cases, there may be one range of concern among owners regarding the authenticity of parts and a seperate level of concern for the appropriateness of components for the model year and production date of the car in question. If the owner intends to race the vehicle, after-market performance components would often be preferable to factory parts.

It's All in the Numbers

As "A Porsche 914 & 914/6 Authenticity and Restoration Resource," P914 is obviously targeted toward those individuals most interested in factory originality and authenticity. As such, numbers pervade the site: dates, part numbers, paint codes, graphs, etc. The section, "Specifications," is entirely numbers-based. The buttons on the left lead to pages containing identification numbers and specifications for the Porsche 914 chassis, engine and transmission. Relationships between these values are also defined.
